Traces left within

The driven complexity of Marco Goecke's (Germany) work stimulates the nervous system of both dancers and audience with its lightning-fast, nervous fluttering and razor-sharp movements. Twisted faces portray both intense longing and dark intimacy.

For Traces left within, Jiří Kyliáns (Czech Republic) is once again working with the NDT dancers on his Toss of a Dice, which was last performed by the company in 2006. The ballet is inspired by the work of sculptor Susumu Shingu, whose pieces Kylián calls “dancers of eternity”, and by a poem by Stéphane Mallarmé with the same title. “To me, [Toss of a Dice] symbolises a sunken ship, something submerged in the waters of our conscious behaviour, something that can be recovered, or maybe not.”

-|-The works of Marina Mascarell (Spain) are poetic, socio-political and intimate. As a former NDT dancer, her work often involves a game of recognising fixed patterns and then constantly questioning them in order to find the “true self”. “I believe theatre should let your imagination fly, without ever using the object as it is. I always question established ways of being… That's what drives me to create.” This will be Marina's first work for the dancers of NDT 1.
