Panic Room
Theater Utrecht / Floor Houwink ten Cate

Following their successful collaboration on the family drama Sea of Silence, theatre makers Floor Houwink ten Cate and Abke Haring and writer Esther Duysker join forces with Jacob Derwig for Panic Room. Celebrated, they will create a bloodthirsty and humorous, dystopian and at the same time hopeful performance, about a war between the head and the heart.

Panic Room

Panic
Room is an intimate, poetic and physical duet of two people locked in a dark room. Do they know each other or not, and what are they fleeing from? The outside world, the other or themselves? The basement, where they feel safe, forces the past on them and forces them to expose each other’s vulnerabilities.
-|-
In a race against time, they try to find the exit through inescapable role-playing in the hope of making it back to the light. But can you redeem the other from darkness or just yourself?

About Floor Houwink ten Cate

Director and writer Floor Houwink ten Cate (1987) creates urgent performances at the intersection of theatre, opera and film, based on personal questions of conscience. In her visual and physical portraits, she celebrates life's discomfort and pain by reducing major moral dilemmas to the human scale and by blowing up underexposed problems to operatic proportions.

About Theater Utrecht

Theater Utrecht is Utrecht's city company and makes explicitly engaged theatre, focusing on existential themes. Always in a new narrative, and in new forms. We draw on all possible sources: from personal stories, literature and music to fashion houses, pop culture and clubs. Our makers experiment uninhibitedly with new techniques, narrative forms and audience relations, and so we deliberately explore the outer reaches of theatre.
