Theater na de Dam 2021
Also this year, on May 4, various singers and actors of renown perform a program around the theme of war and May 4 at the International Theater Amsterdam.
The NOS will be recording the program of Theater na de Dam, which is directed by ITA director Ivo van Hove and in which Sven Figee (leader of Sven Hammond Soul) will be involved. In the program, the artists and actors make clear what we commemorate and why. The presentation is in the hands of Winfried Baijens.
Former D66 leader Jan Terlouw (89) and singer Huub van der Lubbe of De Dijk will open the evening. Among the performers are Wende Snijders and Froukje, who wrote a special song for this evening, in addition to actors from our ITA ensemble such as Hans Kesting, Achraf Koutet, Marieke Heebink and Gijs Scholten van Aschat. They perform their music and lyrics on an empty stage and in an empty room with photo projections of images from the Second World War as a backdrop. Sometimes a great moment, sometimes a meaningful detail. There are main characters, but also bystanders. What goes through their heads? Columnist Sheila Sitalsing and writer David van Reybrouck wrote text contributions especially for today.
Wageningen
At the end of the broadcast, the programme switches to Wageningen, where Malou Petter witnesses the lighting of the Liberation Fire at exactly midnight. This marks the transition from commemoration to celebration, to Liberation Day.
